Come Visit DASIA Outlets

Welcome to another edition of DASIA View, a newsletter intended to inform, educate and enlighten members, public officials, media and others interested in learning more about the astounding landscapes of northwestern Arizona, southwestern Utah and southeast Nevada.

Dixie Arizona Strip Interpretive Association (DASIA) is a private, non-profit cooperative association established in 1994 to support federal, state and local land management agencies by enhancing the public’s enjoyment, understanding and appreciation of publically-managed lands.

DASIA staff and volunteers operate visitor information and retail outlets at the St. George, UT Interagency Center, the Paria Contact Station (15 Mar-15 Nov), and the Pine Valley, UT Heritage Center (Memorial Day-Labor Day).  Additional inventory is offered in Kanab, UT at the Grand Staircase Escalante Visitor Center and Kanab Field Office.

Popular items sold at these locations include maps of the region, especially the Arizona Strip, guidebooks for visitors, coffee table books with astounding photography, t-shirts, hats, and “Nizhoni Stone” figurines crafted from vibrant sandstone quarried in the region. Most publications are also available at the DASIA on-line bookstore found at www.d-asia.org.

Come in to any of these locations to explore the wide variety of information available to help make your visit informative, safe and enjoyable.

2014 was a year of rebuilding a more solid financial base, strengthening the capacity and abilities of staff and volunteers, and adding new perspectives to the Board of Trustees.

Kenneth Sizemore came to the organization in late 2013 as the new Executive Director, charged with the responsibility to improve DASIA’s financial base, make DASIA more visible in the surrounding communities, strengthen ties to Dixie State University and to forge a foundation of stability where DASIA can benefit its land management partners, rather than its partners supporting DASIA.

With the support of the Board of Trustees, agency partners, and generous sponsors, many of these objective have been met.  The cash position of the organization has improved dramatically.  Dixie State University has sponsored a new member on the Board of Trustees, and fundraising events have resulted in significant contributions and increased visibility in the community.

The popular Friday Brown Bag Lecture Series is again happening weekly, with a wide variety of interesting topics.

The first annual DASIA Benefit Golf Tournament was held in April at Sand Hollow Golf Course, with a great response from players and sponsors.

DASIA celebrated its 20th Anniversary at the annual Evening on the Arizona Strip gala dinner and auction.  The Bar G Wranglers provided a rousing set of classic country numbers.
